On the Christinastraat in Oostende, BOB361 architects is collaborating with construction company Verstraete to realise this project. The project is a renovation of a 19th-century 'Maison de Maître' and former youth center into a co-housing project with 10 residential units, featuring a communal garden, rooftop terrace, and multifunctional space.

The residential units are spread across a front and rear building, forming a beautiful and spacious design. The architects have strongly incorporated the existing structure into the design.

The architectural firm decided to use the earth blocks from BC materials. This decision was made not only due to the lower CO2 emissions but also because of the thermal mass, acoustic properties, and qualities that the material adds to the project.

The stabilised compressed blocks of 140mm are mainly used as infill masonry within the original structure., which will largely be plastered with clay plaster.

At the moment, the project execution is in full swing: the earth block masonry in the rear building is completed, and the focus has now shifted to the apartments in the front building, where earth blocks are also being used.
